Dr. Bowman-Hensley recently returned from the annual Academy of General Dentistry government relations conference in Washington D.C. She spent the weekend advocating for important changes in policies with NC lawmakers that directly affect our patient care and patient costs. During her time there, she addressed the most concerning issues facing dentistry today. These include the 2.3% Federal Excise tax, which will be implemented January 1, 2013 as a part of the new Federal Healthcare Plan, as well as the insurance policy portability issue which will allow patients to better choose their insurance plans by increasing the completion, therefore reducing rates and increasing coverage.

On April 17th 2012, 79 attendees of the Academy of General Dentistry's Government Relations Conference met with 140 legislators and federal agency officials in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Bowman-Hensley welcomes your questions and encourages you to urge our lawmakers to make the necessary changes to make dentistry more available and more affordable to everyone. |

We would love to have you as a new patient! It's always nice to develop new friendships.
Have a tooth problem? Call us for an appointment, fill out the New Patient Forms, and bring them with you.

You may print / download the New Patient Forms here.
It is important for you to give thought to what you want for yourself, today and in the future. After we are both clear on the dental goals you have set for yourself, we will examine your mouth to establish a diagnosis.
Diagnosis is the most important step we will take. Together, we will learn about the conditions present in your mouth and what they mean. Observing and understanding the conditions present in your mouth will enable you to make an informed decision about your dental future.
After completing a thorough examination, we will then decide whether additional evaluation is appropriate.
Once we know the condition of your mouth and have a clear understanding of your short and long term goals we can cooperatively develop a plan to guide us in the restoration and preservation of your dental health. Please contact us today and then take the time to fill out the required forms above before your visit.

Veneers are custom-made tooth-colored porcelain laminates customized to match the color of your existing teeth and designed to cover the front portion of your tooth. These veneers are generally recommended to improve the following dental conditions:
- Cracked or chipped teeth
- Slightly crooked or poorly shaped teeth
- Worn teeth
- Permanently stained teeth

Veneers are customized to match the color of your existing teeth -- or you may choose to create a whiter smile by combining tooth whitening with your new veneers. Spaces between teeth can be closed, stains and cracks disappear! In many cases, you can have a great smile with perfectly straight teeth in a matter of weeks instead of the years required when straightening teeth with braces.
The teeth-colored partial crowns are virtually undetectable in the mouth, and conserve much of your natural teeth.

A beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime is our ultimate goal when treating patients. Your personal home care plays an important role in achieving that goal. Your personal home care starts by eating balanced meals, reducing the number of snacks you eat, and correctly using the various dental aids that help control the plaque and bacteria that cause dental disease.

Tooth brushing – Brush your teeth at least twice a day (especially before going to bed at night) with an ADA approved soft bristle brush and toothpaste.
- Place the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums and gently brush using a small, circular motion, ensuring that you always feel the bristles on the gums.
- Brush the outer, inner, and biting surfaces of each tooth.
- Use the tip of the brush to clean the inside of the front teeth.
- Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

An early start in regular dental care is an important step in your child's road to total health. Our office and The American Association for Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit a dentist by age one.
At your child's first visit we will review the child's medical and dental history. We will discuss good oral hygiene practices for your child's teeth and gums and cavity prevention. We will also take the necessary x-rays, complete a cleaning and fluoride treatment, and do a thorough examination.

During the examination, we will check all of your child's existing teeth for decay, examine your child's bite, and look for any potential problems with the gums, jaw and oral issues. We will thoroughly review our findings with you, make recommendations, and answer your questions. |

Refresher Course On Flossing |
|
How many times have you heard health professionals tell you to floss? You nod your head and, maybe you try flossing for a while. Then old habits take over. Well, it bears repeating: flossing is one of the best things you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Bacteria accumulate between the teeth and where the tooth meets gum tissue. Every 24 hours brings a new batch. Brushing won't get rid of the bacteria, flossing correctly will.

Eating for Good Oral Health |
|
What you eat affects your oral health destiny. You can dramatically impact your dental health by eating a well-balanced, healthful diet. Research has shown that poor nutrition jeopardizes our oral health, which puts you at risk for a number of serious dental problems.
The Food Factor
Our food choices can make a big difference in two of the most common diseases today: tooth decay and gum disease. Certain foods, especially those containing sugar, are directly linked to increased levels of cavity-causing bacteria. Tooth decay results when acids from the bacteria attack the teeth forming cavities.
